About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to build on the Diocese of Canterbury's established work in generous giving and develop a broader programme of support for parishes as they seek to grow in faith, deepen their mission and build sustainable and flourishing church communities.
The role will lead the theological and church-facing dimension of the Diocese's approach to generous giving, helping parishes and clergy to understand generosity as an integral part of Christian discipleship, mission and ministry. The postholder will equip clergy and lay leaders to speak confidently and appropriately about generosity and giving within their own parish contexts.
Alongside this, the role will contribute to the development of a wider programme of parish support. Through regular engagement with parishes, clergy and volunteers, the postholder will develop a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing local churches and identify areas where additional diocesan support could make a meaningful difference.
Typically, you will operate during office hours but will need to adjust your working pattern in order to meet with parishes in the evenings and/or occasionally attend their Sunday worship, so the ability to travel to remote locations and work flexibly is a necessity.
About You
You will bring:

A strong understanding of Christian faith and theology, particularly in relation to generosity, stewardship, discipleship, mission and ministry.

The ability to connect theological thinking with the practical realities of parish life and communicate theological ideas clearly and appropriately to different audiences.

Experience of working within or alongside the Church and engaging effectively with clergy, lay leaders and volunteers.

Experience of identifying needs, opportunities and emerging themes and translating these into practical support, resources or initiatives.

The ability to think strategically while also taking practical action, with good organisational and project development skills.

The ability to work across organisational boundaries, take ownership of agreed areas of work and provide leadership where appropriate.
